With friends like this, who needs Democrats?

One of the problems that has been baked into our system is the fact that anybody can run as a Democrat and anybody can run as a Republican—regardless of their core beliefs or the absence of those.

There’s an art to saying the right things to make the electorate think you are something that you’re really not. That art got Liz Cheney into office where she was able to help the Democrats for six years. But she was so obviously not who she said she was that her electorate threw her out the first chance they got.

The recent omnibus bill put a spotlight on people who called themselves Republicans long enough to get elected. Familiar names. Cheney. Kinsinger. Romney. And a half a dozen others.

The word is Quisling. Quisling was a Norwegian who spread out the welcome mat for the Nazis. He made a name for himself in the sense that his name is now associated with those among us who would betray the trust of those who gave them power and work for the enemy.

Nine Republican Quislings served up to the Democrats a winning hand. And the country is $1.7 trillion poorer. And more to the point, it’s another $1.7 million fed to the inflation beast. Interest rates will climb higher and higher to try to overcome that. And we will watch the economy become even more sluggish.

It’s easy to feel good when you see those who ‘get it’ take a majority but when there are enough quislings in the pack, it becomes relatively meaningless. The omnibus should have been stopped in its tracks by a party that has better sense. But unfortunately anyone can call themselves a Republican.
